Bangkok Workforce Training Budget Hits THB 6.9 Billion as Digital and AI Skills Demand Rises

The Ministry of Labour set aside THB 6.9 billion for fiscal year 2026 to train workers in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and digital technologies, including a partnership with Microsoft for AI courses.

The allocation arrives as Bangkok employers confront persistent shortages in technical roles. The Department of Skill Development aims to reach 4.64 million employees nationwide this year, with Skill Development Institute 13 Bangkok handling 1.8 million workers across more than 7,400 establishments in the capital.

Fit4Work and Tourism MoU Target Specific Gaps

The Fit4Work initiative, launched in August 2025 with GSPA NIDA, matches training content to employer needs in Bangkok. Six agencies, among them the Labour Ministry and Tourism Ministry, signed an MoU to prepare 4,900 people for tourism jobs such as barista work, Thai cooking and massage therapy.

These efforts focus on sectors where Bangkok firms report immediate hiring pressure. The Skill Development Institute 13 Bangkok already works directly with local establishments to deliver courses aligned with those demands.

Tax Breaks for Digital Courses Now in Effect

Businesses can deduct 250 percent of expenses for depa-certified digital training from corporate income tax. Individuals may deduct 100 percent of registration fees for the same courses from personal income tax.

Firms that have not yet reviewed eligible programs risk missing the full incentive on 2026 training spend. The Ministry of Labour has also introduced five additional upskilling courses covering AI, automation and robotics that cover more than 11,000 workers tied to Eastern Economic Corridor projects extending into Bangkok operations.
