Sapsiree Badminton Academy Opens New Bangkok Location Amid City Sports Upgrades
The academy is positioned to benefit from multiple facility upgrades now underway across the city.
How we reported this
The O2 Bangkok complex, funded with 200 million baht, is set to open in June 2026 near MRT Bang O station and will host the new Sapsiree Badminton Academy.
Why these upgrades matter now
Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has directed resources toward sports infrastructure at a time when usage has already risen sharply. The new academy will operate inside a purpose-built rehabilitation and wellness facility, giving players and coaches a dedicated base that combines training with recovery services.
Named venues and districts receiving attention
Queen Sirikit National Convention Center handed over an international-standard sports hall in Benjakitti Park to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. The hall offers free daily access for yoga, volleyball and spin biking from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. In Chatuchak District, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration began a renovation budget on March 11, 2026 for the aging Prachaniwet Sports Center. The Sports Authority of Thailand separately announced plans to convert the 50,000-seat Rajamangala National Stadium into a smart stadium.
Scale of investment and usage data
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration allocated over 353 million baht for 2025 to upgrade sports pitches and centers after recording 11 million visits in 2024, a 17 percent increase from the prior year. These figures cover multiple districts and directly support clubs that rely on public courts and halls for daily training.
The combination of the O2 Bangkok project, the Benjakitti Park hall and the Chatuchak renovation gives local badminton programs and other teams expanded options without requiring new private memberships. Athletes affiliated with the Sapsiree Badminton Academy will be among the first to use the integrated services once the June 2026 opening occurs.
Further announcements on timelines for the Rajamangala and Prachaniwet projects are expected from the responsible authorities as budgets move through approval stages. Clubs and individual athletes can monitor Bangkok Metropolitan Administration channels for updated access details once each site reopens.
